How to become a teacher in the UAE?

Teaching in the UAE is a popular choice for many aspiring teachers each year. However, the qualifications needed and the unique learning environment may differ from those in your home country.

Nonetheless, with the right qualifications, this dream can become a reality. To assist you in your future teaching pursuits in the UAE, we have compiled a comprehensive checklist and guide below.

Am I eligible to teach in the UAE?

To begin with, it’s advisable to investigate whether you meet the necessary criteria to teach in Dubai. First, let’s examine the qualifications that academic institutions in the UAE usually require.

Can I teach in the UAE with a PGCE?

While some mid-range public schools may hire teachers solely based on possessing a Bachelor’s degree, more prestigious institutions typically require a teaching certification from an international university. For instance, holding a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) qualification from UCAM University, Spain, would meet this requirement.

Whether you are an experienced assistant teacher, teacher, or coordinator seeking recognition and growth, or a new teacher eager to pursue a fast-paced career path, the PGCE is an excellent choice. This qualification is intended to support your success throughout your career journey by enhancing professional practice for international educators through critical reflection and research.

Bachelor’s degree is a must

Obtaining a Bachelor’s degree is mandatory to work as a school teacher in the UAE. The degree doesn’t necessarily have to be in Education, but it should be in a field relevant to the job. Conversely, for subjects such as Mathematics, Biology, and others, schools in Dubai typically require the teacher to hold a Bachelor’s degree in that particular field.

Is a Master’s degree mandatory to teach in schools?

Some private schools in Dubai may require a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field for individuals seeking a teaching career. Having an advanced degree can provide additional opportunities, higher pay, better benefits, and increased job flexibility.

If your goal is to work as a full-time teacher in any educational institution, such as a school, university, or college in Dubai, you must have at least three years of teaching experience. To qualify for a teaching license, you need to have completed a certain number of teaching hours, which can vary based on your country of origin. You can acquire this experience through internships, part-time work, or by fulfilling teaching requirements while pursuing your Bachelor’s degree (if you have studied Education).

Opportunities for teachers in the UAE

In the UAE, there are abundant opportunities available for teachers in both public and private schools, particularly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. These positions typically require licensed teachers in various subject areas, and many schools prefer or require a commitment of 2-3 years. Despite this, teaching in the UAE has become a highly sought-after opportunity for those seeking to teach abroad due to the attractive compensation packages offered, which often include accommodation, flights, health insurance, and education allowances for dependents.

Salaries for teaching jobs in Dubai and the UAE are generally in the range of $35,000 to $55,000 annually, with higher compensation for administrative roles. Compensation packages typically include a housing allowance, relocation expenses, and bonuses at the end of the contract. Overall, teaching in the UAE offers the chance to save money and gain valuable travel experience.

Exeed College offers various teaching qualifications, including PGCE, Master of Arts in Education, and Master of Arts in Leadership in Education, to assist experienced or assistant teachers in upgrading their skills in the education sector.
