Learning Outcomes 

On successful completion of this module students will be able to: 

1. Provide a detailed rationale for their intended research;
2. Critically synthesis the identified literature landscape for the research enquiry;
3. Critically assess and compare research paradigms, methodologies and methods;
4. Demonstrate awareness and knowledge of any ethical considerations in line with university processes and BERA guidelines;

5. Demonstrate, justify and synthesise appropriate methods for data analysis;
6. Evidence critical thinking about research outcomes on practice.

Learning Outcomes 

On successful completion of this module students will be able to: 

1. Identify and critically synthesise a wide range of primary and secondary digital and printed media;
2. Demonstrate awareness and knowledge of approaching scholarship in an ethical manner;
3. Demonstrate enhanced knowledge and critical practice in their chosen field of study;
4. Critically reflect on the contribution of the independent study to furthering knowledge in the field of study;

5. Critically summarise the outcomes of the study on enhancing personal and professional practice.

Content Covered: 

• Critically evaluate the government policy, including guidance, on governance in education;
• Analyse and discuss the statutory regulatory frameworks informing educational setting  inspections in relation to effective educational governance and leadership; 
• Critically evaluate strategies for effective governance in education;
• Analyse concepts of educational leadership and how these can be used strategically for effective improvement in an educational setting.

Learning Outcomes 

1. Identify and evaluate government policy on governance in an education sector;
2.  Develop a critical understanding of statutory regulatory frameworks informing school or college inspections in relation to governance and leadership;
3. Demonstrate critical awareness of strategies for effective governance in an education setting;
4. Demonstrate critical engagement with concepts of effective strategic leadership for educational improvement.

• Theoretical and practical approaches to leadership and management;

 Demonstrate a critical, comprehensive and systematic understanding of leadership theories;

2. Critically compare and evaluate the validity of different leadership strategies for educational contexts;
3. Critically apply leadership and management theory to practice at operational level;
4. Demonstrate critical self-appraisal and self-awareness as an educational leader and/or practitioner and/or aspiring education leader/practitioner;
5. Demonstrate independence and autonomy in the planning and application of learning.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Identify and clarify own position, purpose and values vis-à-vis the research focus;
2. Critically read, synthesise and evaluate relevant scholarship and wider literature within the specialist field;

3. Carry out original research within an ethical framework;
4. Critically interrogate research findings;
5. Identify outcomes resulting from the research and make recommendations for future practice.
